Dorothy Townsend Smith, of Cleveland passed away Monday, July 16, 2012. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Ray Funeral Home. Graveside Service will follow beginning at 11:15 a.m. at North Cleveland Cemetery with Bro. Bob Hill Officiating.
Mrs. Smith was born in Tennessee on June 7, 1926 to Patrick W. Townsend and Jennie Leola Watkins Townsend. She married Elmer Harrison Smith, on August 28, 1948 in Cleveland, MS. She was a devoted wife of 53 years and a supportive mother and grandmother. Mrs. Smith was an avid fan of all sports and played forward on the Girls Basketball Team at Skene High School.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Harrison Smith; and her parents, Patrick W. Townsend and Jennie Townsend and siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Birdsong (Bill) of Bolton MS; son, Stacy Smith (LeChin) of Taichung, Taiwan; grandchildren, Jason Grafton (Nikki) of Madison, MS., Jack Nowell IV of Madison, MS., Mary Beth Addington (Andrew) of Brandon, MS., and Austin Birdsong of Bolton MS.; and one great-grandson, Davis Grafton.
Pallbearers will be Jason Grafton, Jack Nowell IV, Andrew Addington, Warren Bailey, and Carl Melton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
