Alice Calmes Dorroh Wood
Mrs. Alice Calmes Dorroh Wood, 93, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Bolivar Medical Center. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2016, at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will follow beginning at 11:15 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2016, at Old Cleveland Cemetery with Rev. Tim Starnes officiating. Mrs. Wood was born in Brooksville, MS, on December 25, 1922, to Elisha Edwards Dorroh and Alice Calmes Dorroh. On December 27, 1947, she married W. Frank Wood in Macon, MS. They happily spent almost 51 years together until his passing in 1998. Mrs. Wood proudly served our country in the Women's Army Corps during WWII. Upon her return, she moved to Cleveland to take a job working as a home economist with Mississippi Power and Light until becoming a dedicated homemaker and mother to her four boys. She was a proud, active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, and was also a member to Daughters of the American Revolution. In her spare time she enjoyed genealogy, gardening and yard work, and being with her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Elisha Edwards Dorroh and Alice Calmes Dorroh; husband, W. Frank Wood; sister, Jane Brawley; and brother, Brooks Dorroh. Mrs. Wood is survived by her sons, Walt Wood (Charlotte) of Madison, Clint Wood (Laura) of Cleveland, Dave Wood of Murfreesboro, TN, and Will Wood (Wendy) of Brandon; grandchildren, Thomas Wood, George Wood, John Wood, Alicen Carol Thompson (Phoenix), Wilks Wood (Harrison), Anna Laura Wood, Frank Wood, Martha Clair Wood, Kate Wood, Jackson Wood, Cassidy Wood, and Joshua Wood; and great-grandchild, Eva Dayton Thompson. Her grandsons will be serving as pallbearers. In memory of Mrs. Wood, the family requests donations be made to the Daughters of the American Revolution or to Covenant Presbyterian Church in Cleveland.
