Bennie Monroe Price March 4, 1938 - October 24, 2021 Bennie Monroe Price, 83, of Dundee, Mississippi, passed away October 24, 2021, in Oxford, Mississippi. Visitation will be held at Mr. Price's cabin on Moon Lake, Wednesday, October 27, 2021, from 4 - 8 PM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Lula Baptist Church at 11:00 AM with a graveside service following at Barbee Cemetery on Thursday, October 28, 2021.
Bennie was born in Tupelo, Mississippi to Alton and Thelma Price. He was raised in McComb, Mississippi with his seven siblings. Bennie attended Southwest Junior College and Delta State University on a football scholarship. Bennie received his Masters in Education from Delta State University in 1970. After which he served as principal and headmasters for several schools culminating in serving as Assistant Dean of Vocational Education at Mississippi Delta Junior College. After joining the Mississippi National Guard at age 17, Bennie retired from the military after obtaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He served as the Battalion Commander of the 155th Armored Brigade based out of Greenville, MS. During his military career in the National Guard, he was federalized by President John F. Kennedy to quelch the race riots at the University of Mississippi in 1962. Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mildred New Price, and his brothers Alton, Jr., Phil, Bobby, and Mark Price. He is survived by his siblings Shirley Boyd and Caroline Wells of McComb, MS, and Frank Price of Monterey, LA. He leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Sam Brekher of Germantown, TN, two grandchildren, Nathaniel Prisock and his wife Cayla and their two children, Chapman and Swayze, and Alexandra and husband Chris Johnson of St. Petersburg, FL, as well as many other beloved nieces and nephews. Bennie was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved fishing and quail hunting. After spending much of his life in Benoit, MS, he retired to his much beloved cabin on Moon Lake. He spent all of his free time with his daughter and grandchildren attending all their sporting events and celebrations.
