Betty Jane West Dill 92 of Laurel, formerly of Drew, MS, left this world September 2, 2025, to be with her Lord and Savior.
A visitation honoring Jane will be held Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 1-2 pm at West Drew Baptist Church in Drew, MS, with a Celebration of Life Memorial Service following at 2:00 pm at the West Drew Baptist Church in Drew, MS. Burial will follow in Drew Cemetery.
Jane was born August 8, 1933, in Pace, MS. At a young age, Jane and her family moved to Drew, MS, where they planted their roots. Jane was the sixth child to her parents, John and Rebecca West. Jane graduated from Drew High School. She went on to attend nursing school in Jackson, where she received her LPN license. Jane worked for a short time at an Allergy Clinic in Jackson, where her sister Belle was able to get her a job, until William Theron Dill came to get her and they eloped. They experienced a lifetime of happiness together, celebrating 70 years of marriage until his passing in 2023. After his service in the Navy, the couple moved back to the Delta, where both Jane and Theron worked for the hospital at the Mississippi State Penitentiary. Jane worked for a little while at a clinic in Greenville until planting her roots back home in Drew, where she helped her husband farming while raising their three boys. Jane started working at North Sunflower Hospital in Ruleville, MS, in 1958 and worked there for over forty years until retiring in 1998. After retiring, Jane occasionally worked part-time at the hospital because she felt it was always her calling. Jane loved to serve her family, friends, and her community. In Jane’s spare time, she loved gardening, working on any type of puzzle, and looking for bargains at yard sales. Jane’s faith was most important to her. She thoroughly enjoyed reading her devotions and going to Bible study with friends. Jane developed many lifetime friendships through her church family. Jane knitted Afghans and made quilts for family and friends for many years. Jane truly had a servant’s heart and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 70 years, Theron Dill, six siblings, Bobby West, Quincy West, Donnie West, Ted West, Belle Barron, and Sadie Smith.
She is survived by three sons Michael Dill (Janell), David Dill( Kathy) and Donald Dill(Sherry); a sister Maxine Churchwell (Johnnie) and sister in laws Bonnie Harris, Martha West and Betty West; four grandchildren Stephanie Goad (Jason), Steven Dill (Gina), Stacey West (Josh) and Brian Dill (Nikki); seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
