 Billy Ray Johnson, 78, of Shelby, MS, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Shelby Nursing and Rehab. A Gathering of Family and Friends to celebrate his life will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Ray Funeral Home.
Billy was born on January 15, 1941, to Hollis and Flora Johnson in Bolivar County. On May 1, 1988, he married Deborah Grace Farris in Bolivar County. Billy spent his spare time restoring antique cars and was once known as one of the top restorers in the state.. He retired from Trunkline Gas after many years of service as a Maintenance Mechanic.  After retirement, he began working for Agro. Anything dealing with the outdoors, gardening, growing peanuts,  hunting, fishing or, traveling; Billy loved it.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Hollis Theodore Johnson and Flora Lofton Johnson; brother, Delroy Johnson; and sister, Delores Wheeler.
Billy is survived by his wife, Deborah Johnson of Merigold; children, Cindy Johnson of Sallis, Cathy Cummins (Steve) of Sallis, Jo Haynes (Tommy) of Merigold, Jerry Hunt (Tanise) of Fairfield, TX, and Tommy Hunt (Wanda) of Merigold; grandchildren, Stephen Cummings (Jenna), Ceci Barnhill (Daniel), Shelby Haynes, Jack Haynes, Chase Hunt (Hannah), Harli Hunt, Brooke Mason, Jerad Hunt, and Mallory Hunt; great-grandchildren, Lewis Barnhill, Bobo Barnhill, Gus Barnhill, and Cash Hunt; brothers, Donald Johnson and Larry Johnson (Martha); sister, Betty Buck (Lester); and a host of nieces and nephews.
