Mr. Cecil Washington, 78, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Delta Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will immediately follow beginning at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Beckwith and Rev. Milton Burd officiating. Interment will be in North Cleveland Cemetery. Mr. Washington was born in Cleveland, MS on May 31, 1936, to Cecil Alton Washington and Elizabeth Hall Washington. He proudly served our country in the Army National Guard. On April 18, 1958, he married Margaret Elaine "Penny" Montesi at Shaw First Baptist Church. Mr. Washington worked for over 35 years at Trunkline Gas Company starting out on the pipeline and working his way up to supervisor. After his retirement, he worked at the Delta State University golf course for many years where he also enjoyed playing with the Delta Area Senior Golfers. He was a Deacon at Cleveland First Baptist Church, little league coach, and Mason. He enjoyed quail hunting with his English pointers, golfing, and watching DSU and Atlanta Braves baseball. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Alton Washington and Elizabeth Hall Washington; and sisters, Nanette Doyle and Charlotte Miller. Mr. Washington is survived by his wife of 57 years, Penny Washington of Cleveland; daughters, Beth Hearn (Ricky) of Millington, TN, Kay Mundy (Randy) of Birmingham, AL, and Amy Hayes (Lee) of Columbia, TN; grandchildren, Lauren Mabry (Josh) and Emily Hearn both of Millington, TN, Kyle Mundy of Birmingham, AL, Nick Hayes and Blake Hayes both of Columbia, TN; great-grandson, Jeremiah Mabry of Millington, TN; great-granddaughter, Sarah Grace of Birmingham, AL; and four nieces. Pallbearers will be Mike Everitt, Mike Kinnison, Charles Danna, C.T. Danna, Larry Cocilova, Murray Riddle, and Todd Fuller. In Memory of Mr. Washington, donations may be made to DSU Baseball, Baptist Children's Village, Cleveland First Baptist Church, or the charity of your choice.
