Charles was born in Ripley on September 14, 1922, to J. O. Roberson and Tommie Crouch Roberson, and he came to the Delta in 1927. He was here for the 1927 flood, lived through the Depression and WWII where he proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force. In high school, he pitched for Benoit High School against Boo Ferris, who pitched for Shaw. Boo went to the Red Sox and Charles went to the field. He was a huge Braves fan, and on February 16, 1946, he married Edna McPherson Roberson in Boyle. He began his farming career in 1946, growing cotton, beans, and corn. He ventured into catfish farming and truck patch vegetables. Charles is best known for his business, Delta Well and Supply, drilling irrigation and residential wells all over the Delta. High Explosives went hand and hand with the well business "moving water one way or another." At the age of 90, he began BBQ competition and it got in his blood. He was most known for his Boston Butt and he has trophies to prove it. He loved his children and taught many how to bait a hook on his fish ponds. He loved to see people enjoy themselves. Almost everyone in four counties has fished on his pond banks. Recent years his time was spent in commercial butter bean and pea shelling. He was known by many as the "Pea Man." After these ventures ended, he took charge of the command post from the back porch and until his passing he called the shots. His door was always open and a plate for you was waiting at his table. He was a member of Dockery Farm Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon; as well as being a member of the VFW, and the American Legion. He will truly be missed.
He was preceded in death by parents, J. O.
