Mrs. Cherrie Mae Stanford Redden Long, 75, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at St. Dominics in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be Friday, November 5, 2010 at Skene Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m.. Visitation will be Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Ray Funeral Home from 5:00- 7:00 p.m.
Mrs. Long is preceded in death by her parents, James Mansfield Stanford and Velma Washington Stanford; husbands, Billy F. Redden and James C. Long; brothers, C.T. (Buddy) Stanford, James Lucas Stanford, and Willard Ralph Stanford; and sister, Martha Anne Washington.
Mrs. Long was born in Skene, MS. to James Mansfield Stanford and Velma Washington Stanford, October 22, 1935. She was married to Billy F. Redden in 1955 in Skene. In 1981, after 26 years of a wonderful marriage, Billy left to be with his Lord and Savior. After 25 years of raising children and grandchildren, she married James Long in a loving companionship that lasted until his death two years later. Between her marriages, she lovingly taught and touched the children at Parks Elementary for 16 years. She enjoyed working in her yard, growing many kinds of flowers, being a lifetime member of Skene Baptist Church, and being a member of the red hat society. Mrs. Long also loved and cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Billy Kyle Redden (Deanna), Ronald Mark Redden (Allison) both of Skene, MS; daughters, Cherri Lynn Britt (Boyer) of Indianola, MS and Lana June Weeks (Joey) of Skene, MS; 9 grandchildren, Lindsey Redden, Wes Redden, Kortnee Redden, Kelsee Redden, Elizabeth Weeks Cox (Matthew), Emily Weeks, Erin Weeks, Cody Britt, Anna Bailey Britt; 2 great-grandchildren, Conner Matthew Cox and Walker Wade Cox; and step-children, David and Larry Long; brothers and sisters, Irene Stanford Johnson, James Walter Stanford and Cecil Lamar Stanford.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Wes Redden, Cody Britt, nephews, Gerald Stanford, Rickie Stanford, Bobby Stanford, and billy Stanford.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Skene Baptist Church.
