MADISON, Mississippi – Funeral services for David Scott Horton Sr., 70, of Madison, who died on December 3, 2025, will be at Benoit Union Church on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Private family burial will be later that day at the new Cleveland Cemetery.
David Scott Horton Sr. was born February 13, 1955, at the Norfolk Naval Base in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Commander Robert Carroll Horton and the late Mary Lewis Horton. At a young age, he moved to Tallulah, Louisiana, and later to Greenville in 1968. He attended Greenville Christian School, graduating in 1973, and graduated from Mississippi State University in 1977. After college, he married high school sweetheart Robin Marie Smith in July 1977 and was a partner in Lumley and Horton Farms until 1987. In 1988, he began his career with Delta and Pine Land Company, working in the International Department until the company’s acquisition by Monsanto in 2007. While with Delta and Pine Land Company, he visited and worked in more than 40 countries on every continent except Antarctica. He retired in 2021 from Bayer CropScience.
Horton was a longtime resident of Scott until 2023, when he moved to Madison. He was a member of Benoit Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Robin Smith Horton; son, David Scott Horton (Breanna) of Madison; daughter, Anna Horton McCain (Matthew) of Madison; brother, Robert Sean Horton (Janice) of Ackerman; sister, Cynthia Lewis Horton of Greenville; and grandchildren, Wells Horton, Louise Horton, Kate Horton, Grad McCain and Henry McCain. He is also survived by his stepmother, Pearl Marshall Horton of Saltillo and a host of nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
The family would like to thank the staff of Heart to Heart and the staff of St. Catherine’s of Madison for their selfless care and love for David over the past year.
