Dorothy Marie Sewell

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mrs. Dorothy Marie Sewell, age 83, of Cleveland, MS, who departed this life on September 30, 2025. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Marie’s warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.

A visitation honoring the life of Mrs. Sewell will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Ray Funeral Home, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 PM. A Graveside Service will then take place at the North Cleveland Cemetery, providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather in remembrance of the beautiful life she lived.

Born on December 20, 1941, in Marks, MS, Marie was the cherished daughter of Elvie James Keen and Eloise Herring Keen. She graduated from Marks High School and soon after met and married, Joe Franklin Sewell. Together, they built a wonderful family, with Marie dedicating herself to caring for her children until they were old enough to attend school. She then found joy in her role as a Teacher’s Aide, profoundly impacting the young lives she helped shape. Throughout her life, Marie demonstrated an immense passion for service, particularly in her role as a children’s church teacher. After many fulfilling years in education, she transitioned to working at Duo-Fast, where she diligently served for over 20 years until her retirement. Marie’s heart knew no bounds, especially when it came to her grandchildren. She cherished every moment with them, even moving to Florida so she could be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Marie’s green thumb brought beauty into her home; she found joy in gardening, nurturing flowers and vegetables with loving care. Her sewing skills were also remarkable, as she often made beautiful dresses and clothes for her grandchildren. Most importantly, Marie was deeply devoted to her faith, family, and community. Her greatest treasures were her family and her salvation. Marie will be lovingly remembered for her compassion, generosity, and unwavering love.

Marie was preceded in passing by her parents, Elvie Keen & Eloise Keen, her beloved husband, Joe Sewell, sisters, Johnnie Mason & Diane Keen.

She leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter, Gina(Eric) Wilcoxon; son, James(Ruby)Sewell; grandchildren, Erin(Nick Neri) Wilcoxon, Evan(Josie) Wilcoxon, Summer(Kyle Simmons) Tadlock, Steven Tadlock; sisters, Linda and Barbara Keen.

Marie’s unwavering faith in Christ was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of her church, passionate about worship, and found great joy in singing with the choir. Her love for the Lord was so evident in the way she lived, loved, and cared for others!
