Dorsey Ray Howell was called home to be with the Lord on August 4, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2020 at Delta Heights Cemetery. Dorsey was born on November 8, 1940 in Sunflower, MS to Leroy & Marie Howell. He grew up in Cleveland off of Old Ruleville Rd and attended Cleveland High School.
He and his family worked for the Underwood Home Building Association and helped build the subdivision back in the 1960's. Dorsey worked with several contractors and had a hand in building the Delta State Science building and the Bologna Performing Arts Center. All his family was in the carpentry industry. In his spare time, Dorsey would build things for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also an avid hunter who loved to fish. On Sunday afternoon he could be found surrounded by family watching the Dallas Cowboys. Most of all he was a family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with all his heart. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Joyce Kendall; sister, Annie Jo Bruce. Dorsey is survived by his children, Allan Howell (Angie) of Cleveland, Waunda White (Michael) of Larned, KS, Anita Howell (Jimmy) of Cleveland, Camilla Yarborough (Mark) of Batesville, MS; siblings, Earl Howell (Mary Ellen) of Florida and Johnnie Lou Powell of Cleveland; grandchildren, Shane Howell(Courtney), John Allen Howell (Ashley), Jeremy White, Justin White(Alexis), Joshua White, Cody Childress (Crystal), Mary Oriley (Davy), Cole Yarborough (Vornica), John Yarborough (Shawanna); eleven great grandchildren and one on the way.
