Elijah Herbison

Elijah Herbison, a devoted agriculture pilot, beloved husband, and cherished community member, departed this life on November 24, 2025, in Cleveland, Mississippi, at the age of 44.

Family and Friends are welcome to visit Eli’s home Tuesday and Wednesday November 25-26th after 4:00PM

Eli was born on September 18, 1981, in Cleveland MS to Clinton “Butch” and Emily Herbison where he went on to be integral in the local agricultural landscape. At the age of 15, Eli started out loading planes for Boyle Flying Service, and later for Gregory Flying Service in Shaw, MS. He completed his A&P training in Olive Branch while working for Wilson Air Center and achieving his pilot’s license in 2001. Eli also attended Flying Tiger Aviation to get his commercial & ag rating. Eli was never rattled, with a steady hand and clear mind, he navigated the skies of Mississippi and the Midwest, embodying the spirit of a true aviator. Over a productive, 17-year career, Eli carved a niche for himself in the agriculture aviation industry as the owner and operator of Herbison Ag Aviation, as well as flying for Bo-Air in Shaw, Mississippi. His unwavering commitment to excellence was recognized as Pilot of the Year in 2020. There are too many pilots to list that brightened Eli’s time in the air which is a testament to his skill, professionalism, and the respect he garnered from his colleagues in the MAAA (Mississippi Agricultural Aviation Association).

Those who had the pleasure of knowing him often remarked on his even-tempered demeanor; he was the epitome of calm and relaxation, approaching life’s challenges with a laid-back grace that amazed those around him. He was a master of one liners which kept all of those around him filled with smiles and laughter. Eli often recounted how much his mentors taught and poured into him, who constantly reminded him that he was always in control, so he was grateful and excited for the opportunity to pass the baton by doing the same for the younger pilots joining him. Most of all Eli had the most unselfish soul, and was always smiling even in his last moments, he remained true to form, saying: “he was doing pretty good, nothing to complain about”, a reflection of his immense character and generosity. While often a man of few words, we know the radio chatter will be a little less entertaining, yet the spirit of Eli will always remain.

Eli’s love for the outdoors was reflected in his many pastimes. He found joy in camping, fishing, and tinkering with various projects, always drawn by the allure of life’s simple pleasures.

He leaves behind his devoted loving wife, Jennifer Herbison, with whom he shared countless memories and adventures. The legacy of his warmth and kindness will also continue through his siblings, Clinton James Herbison III (Ashley) and Rae Herbison, as well as his beloved mother, Emily Sue Cox Herbison. Eli is also survived by his in-laws, Otis and Minta Hill, who were his constant supporters, and his life-long friend, Margaret Ann Wilkerson.

Eli’s earthly journey has been enriched by the presence of many who loved him dearly. He now joins his father, Clinton James "Butch" Herbison, his grandparents, Clinton and Victoria Herbison, Emmitt and Martha Cox, and his cherished pet, Stella. His spirit leaves an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to have crossed his path.

As we reflect upon the life of Eli Herbison, let us remember a man who soared through the skies with dedication and heart, whose legacy will continue to inspire those who cherish him deeply
