Elmer Leonard Lyn Reaves, Sr.
Elmer Leonard "Lyn" Reaves, Sr., 99, of Cleveland, MS, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at Indywood Estate in Cleveland, MS. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at Cleveland Church of Christ. A Celebration of Life Service will follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at Cleveland Church of Christ with Tim McCarter officiating. Interment will be in New Cleveland Cemetery.
Lyn was born on October 27, 1918, to Elmer and Lena Reaves in Oxford, MS. He proudly served his country in the Army during World War II. While serving in the artillery in the South Pacific, he survived three invasions. On August 7, 1966, he married Gladys Edna Johnson in Cleveland, MS. He worked for REA Express for over 40 years and then went to do other jobs such as painting houses and greeting people at Walmart. Lyn was very active and enjoyed walking, riding his bicycle, and working outside. Even in his 90s, he continued to mow his lawn and change his own oil. Lyn also enjoyed building furniture. He served for over 50 years as an elder in the Cleveland Church of Christ. He was very proud of his two sons that he raised, Leonard and Danny. Lyn loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them even if it was by pranking them occasionally.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Goldie Lee Reaves; second wife, Gladys Edna Reaves; parents, Elmer and Lena Reaves; and step-son, Irby Neal.
Lyn is survived his sons, Leonard Reaves (Gail) of Virginia Beach and Danny Reaves (Ayda) of Memphis, TN; step-son, Bob Neal of Omaha, NE; step-daughter, Jane Elliott (Charles) of Leland, MS; grandchildren, Savannah Austin of Columbia, MO, Brad Reaves of Chesapeake, VA, Julie Bergman of Salida, CO, Doug Reaves of Chesapeake, VA, Paige Smith of Cleveland, MS, Neal Kimbrell of Cleveland, MS, Matthew Neal of Omaha, NE, David Neal of Germany, Ryan Rundquist of Durango, CO, Ian Neal of Sioux Falls, SD; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
