Mr. Eugene Kenyon "Ken" Owen, 79, of Cleveland, MS, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018, at St. Dominic's in Jackson. Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tim Starnes officiating.
Mr. Owen was born in Athens, IL, on September 10, 1938, to Eugene William Owen and Ruth Kenyon Owen. He grew up in Meridian, MS, and New Orleans, LA, and in 1956 he graduated from Alcee Fortier High School in New Orleans. He continued his education at University of Southern Mississippi and graduated in 1960 then obtained his MBA from Loyola University in 1967. In 1964, he married Judy Lynne Atwater and they had four beautiful children together.
Mr. Owen proudly served his country as a Captain in the United States Army Signal Corps at East Coast Relay Station in Frederick, MD. He worked as an accountant for Humble Oil and Refining Company and as a CPA for a New Orleans CPA firm. He left public accounting to pursue his passion as an accounting professor at LSU in Shreveport, LA. He then moved to teach at Delta State University where he stayed until his retirement in May of 2000.
As a faithful Christian, Mr. Owen served as a Deacon and Elder in Presbyterian churches in New Orleans, Shreveport, and Cleveland. For many years, he also served as treasurer at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene William Owen and Ruth Kenyon Owen; and sister, Freda Estelle Owen.
Mr. Owen is survived by his wife, Judy Lynne Atwater Owen of Cleveland; daughters, Kristine Edwenna Owen and Kimberly Ruth Owen both of Dallas, TX; sons, Eugene Kenyon Owen, Jr. (Jenny) of Ridgeland, MS, and Karl Atwater Owen (Emily) of Indianola, MS; grandchildren, Madison Dodd Owen of Ridgeland, MS, Kurt Taylor Owen, Abby Kate Owen, and Rutherford Hogan Owen all of Indianola; sister, Carleen Owen Vining (David) of Amite, LA; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Covenant Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, MS.
