Fred Albert Strehle
Mr. Fred Albert Strehle, 72, of Drew, MS, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at North Sunflower Medical Center in Ruleville, MS. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017, at Drew Methodist Church. A Memorial service honoring the life of Mr. Strehle will immediately follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017, at Drew Methodist Church with Rev. Glenn Seefeld officiating.
Fred was born on January 16, 1945, to Fred Albert Strehle and Maxine Shannon Strehle in Meridian, MS. He grew up in a Navy family and was blessed to spend his childhood living all over the country. While living in Florida, he became very talented at waterskiing and sailing. He graduated high school and continued his education at a junior college in Meridian, MS.
Fred met his wife at The University of Southern Mississippi and on May 31, 1969, he married Lou Diane Shurden at the Episcopal Church in Hattiesburg, MS. After coming to Drew often to visit Diane's family, Fred fell in love with the Delta and duck hunting. For a while they lived in Florence, MS, where he worked as a manager for a loan company, but due to his love for hunting, they soon moved to Drew where he began running a cotton gin. He had his own business surveying rice fields and selling chemicals to gins.
Fred was diagnosed with lung cancer 20 years ago and has been described as a walking miracle. He had a love for ALL types of hunting from deer to turkey; he enjoyed sharing this love with his sons throughout the years. As a talented marksman, he won many shooting contests. He was a big talker, one to never meet a stranger and could carry on a conversation with anyone he met. He was an outgoing individual and a hard worker. Most importantly, his grandchildren held a special place in his heart.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred Albert Strehle and Maxine Strehle Sinclair; and step-father, William Sinclair.
Mr. Strehle is survived by his wife, Diane Shurden Strehle of Drew, MS; sons, Dallas Strehle of Louisville, MS and Adam Strehle (Suzanne) of Sardis, MS; grandchildren, Charles Walton Strehle and Sadie Elizabeth Strehle of Sardis, MS; and sister, Linda Holloway (Richard) of Meridian, MS.
