Geraldine Yarborough Mitchell, 91, of Merigold, MS, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at Ray Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at Ray Funeral Home with Brother Jack Moore officiating. Interment will be in Merigold Cemetery.
Geraldine was born on September 6, 1928, to Alfred and Elvira Yarborough in Webster County, MS. On September 15, 1956, she married Lyle G. Mitchell in Merigold, MS. Geraldine graduated from Merigold High School and entered nursing school at King's Daughters Hospital in Greenville, MS in 1948, 15 days after graduating from high school. She worked as the supervisor at City Hospital in Cleveland from 1953 to 1963 then opened the doors to Bolivar Medical Center in 1963 as the nursing supervisor, retiring in 2000.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lyle G. Mitchell; son, Paul Mitchell; parents, Alfred and Elvira Yarborough; and brothers, Billy Yarborough, Donald Yarborough, and Leonard Yarborough.
Geraldine is survived by her son, David L. Mitchell (Cathy) of Southaven, MS; daughters, Karen Sue Tobia (Shaffie) of Merigold, MS and Brenda Lea Mitchell of Navarre, FL; four grandchildren, Matthew Mitchell (Ashley), Madelyn Mitchell (Dominic), Ashley Mitchell, and Devon Mitchell; daughters of the heart, Melanie Tackett, Cindy Brown, Rosie Golliday, and Linda Frierson; a host of nieces and nephews and beloved friends; and her care dog, Tippy.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Yarborough, Doug Yarborough, Mark Yarborough, Tim Tackett, Blake Tackett, and Wayne Moss. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael James, Ron Yarborough, Jake Yarborough, Zachary Moss, Douglas Yarborough, Kelly Yarborough, Chris Yarborough, and Henry Carpenter.
