Mrs. Gertha Vanlandingham Fowler, 89, of Cleveland, passed away Friday, March 25, 2016, at Bolivar Medical Center Long Term Care. Visitation will be 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Monday, March 28, 2016, at Doty Springs Baptist Church in Ethel, MS. Celebration of Life services will immediately follow beginning at 3:00 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2016, at Doty Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Fowler and Bro. David Fowler officiating. Interment will be in Doty Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Fowler was born on July 10, 1926, in Attala County, to Charlie Vanlandingham and Ada Jennings Vanlandingham.
On November 6, 1943, she married Clarence Ledell Fowler in Kosciusko, MS. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Rosedale and deeply loved the Lord. She worked in housekeeping her entire life and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, cooking and canning. Mrs. Fowler was an excellent gardener and had a green thumb. She took much delight in growing her African violets. Her biggest pride was her family. She happily raised four children loving each one of them equally. She was a hard worker and would plow and plant a garden every year to provide for them, and she enjoyed making their clothes for them as well. When her grandchildren came along, she then devoted herself to them and always looked forward to caring for them.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Ada Vanlandingham; husband, Clarence Ledell Fowler; son, Sammy Wilburn Fowler; brothers, Charlie Vanlandingham and Blanton Vanlandingham; and sisters, Gervis Steed and Grace Eakin. Mrs. Fowler is survived by her children, Barbara Fowler Denton of Richton, MS, Donna Sheryl Fowler Weiber of Columbus, and Glenda Sue Fowler Grant (Wayne) of Cleveland; grandchildren, David Fowler (Donna) of Hernando, Tahtia Miles (Mark) of Bullard, TX, Cassie Bullock (Trey) of Hattiesburg, Charles Hudson of Columbus, Renee Lett (Thomas) of Columbus, Robert Grant, Jr. (Brandy) of Cleveland, and Matthew Grant (Jamie) of Cleveland; great-grandchildren, Jacey Miles, Bryce and Blake Bullock, Tristan and Ethan Lett, Braxton and Gavin Grant, and Cason Grant; and brother, Clinton Vanlandingham (Ann) of Flora, MS. Pallbearers will be Robert Grant, Jr., Matthew Grant, Trey Bullock, Bryce Bullock, Charles Hudson, Jr., and Triston Lett. Honorary pallbearers will be Lenwood Vanlandingham , Bernard Vanlandingham, and James Steed.
