Harriett “MeMaw” Powell, a beloved member of her community and cherished matriarch of her family, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, in Cleveland, Mississippi.
MeMaw was born on July 30, 1937, to Clarence & Harriett Flint, in Mangham, Louisiana, MeMaw spent her early years in her hometown before moving to Tunica as a young adult, where she dedicated her life to raising her children and serving others.
For over 37 years, MeMaw was a devoted waitress at the Blue & White Cafe in Tunica, where her warm smile and caring demeanor left a lasting impression on everyone she served. Known for her sense of humor and engaging personality, she retired from her beloved career in the early to mid-90s, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and service.
In addition to her time at the café, MeMaw also made a significant impact as a substitute teacher at North Sunflower Academy. Her passion for education and her love for the children in her community were evident during her years in the classroom.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Harriett Flint; brothers, Clarence Flint, Martin Flint, Vernon Flint, Calvin Flint, and Nolen Flint; as well as her sister, Barney McDonald. Each of these family members shaped her life and spirit in profound ways, and they too will be remembered with love.
Family was the cornerstone of Harriett’s life. She was affectionately known as "MeMaw" to her many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as many others she cared for and with whom she shared a special bond. Her grandchildren—Jade Lott (Preston), Josh Chambers (Kara), Jake Chambers, Peyton Chambers (Cameron), Ginnie Gaters, James Gaters Jr. (Lauren), Melanie Mulvihill (Bobby), Brancy Cummins (Hillary), Brady Cummins (Alex), and Brandon Cummins (Lauren)—held a significant place in her heart, and she was an active presence in their lives. Furthermore, MeMaw celebrated the joys of 30 great-grandchildren, bringing laughter and warmth to family gatherings.
MeMaw is survived by her loving son, Roger Chambers (Debbie); daughters, Teresa Hebert (Ricky) and Brenda Cummins (Bill); and sister, Sue Poole, all who will carry her spirit and memories forward.
