Jacqueline Crowe

Jacqueline Bussell Crowe went to be with the Lord, where she also joined many beloved family members Tuesday, July 18, 2023. A visitation will be held at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Sunday, July 23, with a graveside service following at Shaw Cemetery, Shaw, MS.

Jacqueline Bussell Crowe, better known as Jackie, was born at home in rural Calhoun County, Mississippi, on July 2, 1940, the youngest daughter of Harvey and Julia Ford Bussell.  When she was a toddler, the family moved to the Delta, where she grew up.  As the youngest of the four sisters, she followed in their footsteps to work in the fields hoeing and picking cotton, helping can food, and playing with paper dolls during the off-season.  Music was a way to pass away the hours in the cotton field, and when she learned a new song from the chorus at school, the sisters also learned it and sang and harmonized to get through the hot days of work in the cotton fields. She walked to and from elementary school in Ruleville and, in passing the one-room Carnegie Library, followed the sisters in developing a lasting love of reading.  A later move to Cleveland, she made lasting friendships and was a member of the Class of 1957.  She married John Edward Crowe, and their sons, Michael Edward (Mike) and John Gregory (Greg) were born.  She worked at Baxter's for a time and later worked at Staple Cotton.  She was a member of Yale Street Baptist Church and Immanuel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the church choir.  She relocated to Birmingham, Alabama, where she met and married Patrick Turner.  With two of her sisters in the area, they began their annual trips around the Southeast.  A destination was decided upon, and minus husbands and children, they explored places like New Orleans (a favorite), Savannah, Charleston, SC, the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina, and the Shenandoah Valley.  One of her favorite times was to travel and hear Greg in concert, particularly her time on stage when she joined him, harmonizing with him and singing his original compositions. Greg also added to her love of music when he would arrange for concert tickets for some of her favorite performers, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard.

She is survived by her son, Greg (Charidy); grandchildren, Shilo and Jax Crowe, Megan Moore (Bobby), Kayla Little (Josh); greatgrandchildren Kylie and Emma Moore, Harper, and Devan Little; her sister Carolyn Bussell Piatt; nieces and nephews, Melanie Turnage (Norman), Julia Fitzpatrick, Diane Smith (Terry), Ronnie Fulcher (Vicki), Keith Jennings (Joanna), Kim Poe Smith (Joe), Ricky Poe (Tess) and numerous other extended family members.

Jackie is predeceased by her parents, her son, Mike and his wife, Debbie; husbands, John Edward Crowe and Patrick J Turner; sisters Emogene Fulcher and Doris Jennings; her nephews Donnie Fulcher, Ken Jennings, and David Jennings.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Poe, Keith Jennings, Greg Crowe, Ronnie Fulcher, Bobby Moore, and Josh Little.
