James David Woods, Jr.

Mr. James David Woods, Jr., 87, of Gunnison, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2016, at his home. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Abbott officiating. Interment will be in Beulah Cemetery. Mr. Woods was born in Lambert, MS, on November 10, 1928, to James David Woods, Sr. and Lucy Caroline Self Woods. Joining at the young age of 17, he proudly served our Country in the Army and the Army Reserve. On April 22, 1950, he married Della Faye Turner. Mr. Woods loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and being with his wife and family. He was a good sport alone, as well as with others and he was always proud of that. He was very unique, was a story teller and a jokester who loved to make people laugh. God broke the mold when He made him, and the world will be a sadder place without him in it. He was preceded in death by his wife, Della Faye Woods; parents, James David Woods, Sr. and Lucy Caroline Self Woods; brother, Roy C. Woods; and sister, Mattie May Hitchcock. Mr. Woods is survived by his daughter, Judy Woods Chamberlin (Dan) of Acworth, GA; grandchildren Amber Chapman of Acworth and Crystal Chamberlin both of Acworth, GA; great-grandchildren, Joshua Halfcare, Austin Spivey, and Taylor Chapman; sisters, Anne Michelli (Gene) of Gunnison, Ruth Dodson (John) of Virginia, and Nelda Abbott (Ray) of Baton Rouge, LA; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
