Jerry Junior Dycus, a beloved father, friend, and artist, departed this life on December 9, 2025, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
A visitation honoring Jerry will be held Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 1-2 pm at Ray Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will follow at 2pm in Ray Funeral Home.
Jerry was born to his parents, Elbert & Billie June Bledsoe Dycus, on May 16, 1957. Jerry's journey began in the vibrant world of catfish farming—a family legacy rooted deeply in love and tradition. Yet, his true calling emerged in the realm of painting, where, for over fifty years, he masterfully transformed homes into a reflection of beauty that resonated with many. A selfless soul, Jerry was known for his generous spirit and a heart that embraced everyone around him. Jerry would take in homeless people, and Jerry’s own children reminisced about how he even took care of children who weren’t even his own. His love for those in his life was as expansive as the Mississippi skies under which he thrived. Each Valentine’s Day, without fail, he would brighten the days of his loyal customers, especially the widows, by gifting them tokens of affection. Jerry was also a character who was a hilarious storyteller. Many belly laughs were had when he told stories of working around commercial fishermen who fell out of boats, got run over by boats, and painted stories. Yet some of his best stories were about faith. An Jerry was of faith in the shed blood of Jesus. He believed in the simple joys of life, finding happiness in Hallmark movies and the thrill of a good football game—his allegiance unwaveringly held with both Ole Miss and the New Orleans Saints. A cherished story woven into the fabric of his life is the time he raced against the legendary Archie Manning and emerged victorious, embodying the spirit of determination and jest that defined him.
