JoAnne Story
Ivy JoAnne Chandler Story, 83, of Ruleville, passed away Monday, March 11, 2019, at Walter B. Crook Nursing Home. Visitation will be 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Ruleville Baptist Church. Celebration of Life services will immediately follow beginning at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Ruleville Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Haney officiating.
JoAnne was born in Ruleville, MS, to Issac Henry Chandler and Jewel Elizabeth Sweatt Chandler. On May 28, 1954, she married Charles Robert "Bill" Story. She worked for many years as a Postal Clerk with the United States Postal Service while also maintaining a home and raising her children. She was an excellent baker who could make the most amazing butter pound cake. JoAnne was a dedicated member of Ruleville Baptist Church where she also sang in the choir. In her spare time, she enjoyed drinking coffee with her sisters and neighbors, playing rook, horse races, and eating Blue Bell ice cream.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Issac Henry Chandler and Jewel Elizabeth Chandler; husband, Charles Robert "Bill" Story; and siblings, Mildred Irene Chandler Pratt, James Earl Chandler, Dorothy Marie Chandler Threet, Evelyn Jean Chandler Ray, Percy Ray Chandler, Ollie Sue Chandler Willingham, Agnes Katherine Chandler Starnes, Henry George Chandler, and Robert Chandler.
JoAnne is survived by her children, Brenda Jo Story Vanlandingham of Ruleville, Robert Michael "Mike" Story (Tammy) of Ft. Payne, AL, and Janet Lynn Story Oakes (Bert) of Southaven; grandchildren, Monica Lee Vanlandingham Fuller (Clay), Albert Craig Oakes (Carrie), Gary Lee Vanlandingham, Jr. (Toni Miller), John Michael Story (Christie), Janet Lee Oakes, Debra Katherine Story, and Lauren Anne Story Mullins (Andrew); great-grandchildren, Karleigh Savannah Oakes, Nora Elise Fuller, Charles Clark Oakes, Elena Lucille Oakes, and Nathan Garrett Oakes; sister, Maudine Chandler Andrews; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mike Story, Lee Vanlandingham, John Michael Story, Clay Fuller, Craig Oakes, and Bert Oakes.
In memory of Mrs. Story, donations may be made to Ruleville Baptist Church.
