Joe Lee Bassie, 72, of Merigold, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2019, at his home. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday May 28, 2019, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday May 28, 2019, at Ray Funeral Home. Interment will in New Cleveland Cemetery.
Joe Lee was born on January 20, 1947, to Pasquino J. and Santa Raimondo Bassie in Cleveland, MS. On June 15, 1992 he married Brenda Williams. He was a 1966 graduate of Rosedale High School and was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rosedale. He served as Bolivar County Constable for 38 years and worked for Baxter for 36 years before retiring. and with all his "girls"(clerks).
You could not have asked for a better husband or friend. He was a very caring person and would help you in any way he could. Joe Lee enjoyed fishing and loved his grandchildren and dogs. His grandchildren loved him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Pasquino J. and Santa Bassie.
Joe Lee is survived by his wife, Brenda Williams Bassie of Merigold; brother John Raymond Bassie (Linda) of Cleveland; sons, Butch Bassie (Cindy) of Cleveland and Michael Bassie of Merigold; step-daughter, Michelle Kimbell (Mike) of Richland; step-son, Gary Cooper (Phyllis); grandchildren, Lee Michael Bassie, Lindsey Wright (Dustan), Lauren Kimbell, Todd Cooper (Stephanie) and Taylor Cooper; and several great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Cliff Logan, Billy Bassie, Joe Garcia, Chuck Balducci, Chris Logan, John David Bassie, Tommy Haynes and Travis Washington. Honorary pallbearers will be all local law enforcement.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rosedale, P.O. Box 307, Rosedale, MS 38769.
