John B. Mengarelli, 91, passed away on November 17, 2018, at his home in Cleveland, MS. A Rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church with Father Kent Bowlds officiating.
John was born on April 7, 1927, to Charlie and Mary Mengarelli in Bourbon, Mississippi. On December 9, 1961, he married Theodora Gavalas in Athens, Greece. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing Bocce with friends at the Bocce Barn at Knights of Columbus Hall. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. John started Airport Grocery in 1967 and retired in 1991, after many years of doing what he loved. He was a master cook and loved to grill.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Theodora Mengarelli; parents, Charlie and Mary Mengarelli; and brothers, Mack Mengarelli, Charlie Mengarelli, Jr. and Roy Mengarelli.
John is survived by his daughters, Mary M. Willis (Ricky) of Opelousas, LA and Cynthia M. Ferguson (Joe) of Cleveland; sons, John Mengarelli, Jr. (Jeannie) of Summerville, SC, Frank Mengarelli (Brenda) of Daytona, FL, and Michael Mengarelli of Flowood, MS; siblings, Paul Mengarelli (Debra) of Lafayette, LA, Joseph Mengarelli (Peggy) of Shelby, MS, Victor Mengarelli (Lee) of Carriere, MS, Emma Jean Mills of Corpis Christie, TX; and Clara Clubb of Beaumont, TX; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Marvin Lott, Jodi Rocconi, Peter Rocconi, Michael Rocconi, John Capocaccia, and Larry Bramuchi. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Aguzzi, Victor Tarsi, Charles Feduccia, and Joe Bramuchi.
