John Daniel Oswalt

Mr. John Oswalt, 85, of Merigold, MS, passed away at his home on June 3, 2018. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Ray Funeral Home with Jack Rhoades and Ed Coleman officiating. Interment will be in New Cleveland Cemetery.
John was born on August 22, 1932, to John and Madge Oswalt in Crowder, MS. On October 13, 1992, he married Frankie McDavid in Helena, AR. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. After returning home he worked for Midsouth Water for 62 years before retirement. John had a passion for his small business called Delta Daylilies where he grew and sold watermelons, pumpkins, and also day lilies to his friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Madge Oswalt; son, Danny Oswalt; and great grandson, Parker Watson.
John is survived by his wife, Frankie Oswalt; daughters, Beverly Elmore (Gary) and Robin Halfacre (Marvin); son, Jack Rhoades; grandchildren, Sandi Davis, Amanda Lowery, Katie Halfacre, Addie Halfacre, and Jackson Rhoades; great grandchildren, Harlee Caswell and Tate Davis; sisters, Genette Bowman, Sadie Cobb, Evie Howe, and Matti Yarborough and brothers, David Oswalt and Earl Oswalt.
Pallbearers will be Gary Elmore, Bill McDavid, Jackson Rhoades, Donnie Berryhill, Ricky Berryhill, Doug Cocilova, Marcie Mullins, and Ernie Blaine. Honorary pallbearers are the McDonalds Coffee Club and in memory, John's son, Danny Oswalt.
