John "Jack" Franklin Fletcher

John Franklin Fletcher, affectionately known as Jack, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 20, 2023 at Bolivar Medical Center in Cleveland, MS.

Jack was born on September 8, 1941 to Johnny and Madeline Fletcher in Cleveland, MS.  Jack’s life was centered around the church he loved dearly, First United Methodist Church of Cleveland, where he served in various leadership capacities throughout his life.  His longest- standing service in the church was in the choir where he sang beautifully for 66 years.  Music was perhaps his greatest passion, and his voice was strong, easily recognizable, and passionate. It was through the choir that he met his beautiful bride of fifty-six years, June Fyfe.

Jack graduated from Cleveland High School in 1959 and continued his education at Delta State College, receiving a bachelor’s degree in business with a minor in music.  After college, he joined the Navy serving in the Mediterranean as a communications officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La.  Jack achieved the rank of lieutenant before receiving an honorable discharge following the death of his father.

Jack went on to work in the family business, Fletcher Funeral Home, with his mother and brother Kent.  After selling the business in 1978, Jack went on to work in various capacities but ultimately found his career in his videography business where he served the community by memorializing weddings, dance recitals, and other life events for his friends in the Cleveland community and other surrounding areas.  One of the highlights of his career was when he won a national award for a documentary he filmed while on one of his several missionary trips to Honduras.

He was an enthusiastic member of the Cleveland Exchange Club for about 60 years, having served as President and in several other officer capacities over that period.  He also sang with Delta State’s Delta Chorale for four years later in life and traveled with them to New York City and Europe to sing.

Jack is survived by his wife June Fyfe Fletcher; his son John Floyd (Lisa) Fletcher of Jackson; his daughter Jill Fyfe (Jay) Mahaffey of Cleveland; grandsons William Emmett Fletcher and John Talbot Fletcher of Oxford and Robert McCachren Fletcher of Jackson; granddaughters Katy Elizabeth Mahaffey of Starkville and Amanda Nicole Mahaffey of Cleveland; and brother William Kent Fletcher of Kopperl, TX.
