John Summers

It is with profound sadness and reverence that we announce the passing of John William Summers, who departed this life on February 11, 2026, at the age of 85 in Duncan, Mississippi.

A visitation will be held at Ray Funeral home Monday, February 16, at 1:30pm to 3:30 with a private graveside to follow.

John was born on July 4, 1940, to Lester and Della Summers. Throughout his life John was a beacon of love and kindness, deeply rooted in his family and community. An avid outdoorsman, John reveled in the beauty of nature, finding peace and purpose in the woods while turkey hunting or by the water while catfishing. His zest for life extended to his love for golf as a proud senior golfer, fostering friendships and camaraderie as a member of the Senior Golfer Association. His passion for the outdoors and wildlife was mirrored in his commitment to local organizations, where he served as the vice president of the Mississippi Seed Board and as a board member of the Donaldson Point Hunting Club. John also made significant contributions to education as president of the Bayou Academy School Board, exemplifying his dedication to nurturing future generations.

In this time of sorrow, we take solace in the memories we shared with John—his warmth, laughter, and unwavering love for his family and community. All who knew him hold precious memories of spending time with John outdoors. He especially treasured spending time hunting and fishing with his wife who he loved so dearly, as well as his children, grandchildren, and son-in-law Matt. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, beloved John. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
