The Reverand Dr. Julia Gibert Moore, 87, died Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the Bolivar Medical Center, Cleveland, Mississippi. There will be a visitation at the Rayner House at Calvary Episcopal Church, Cleveland, on Thursday, July 10, from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. The burial will be at the Shaw Cemetery, Shaw, Mississippi, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11, followed by a Requiem Eucharist beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church. The officiants will be the Right Reverand Dr. Dorothy Sanders Wells and the Reverand Les Hegwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Aylward, Buddy Hemphill, Ned Mitchell, Bob Ragan, Stephen Smith, and Bob Wilbanks. Dr. Moore was a native of Bolivar County. She was born in Cleveland and graduated from Gunnison High School at the age of sixteen. She married the late Dana Clifton Moore, Jr. in 1958 at Bienaime on Perthshire Plantation, Gunnison, Mississippi. Dr. Moore received a B.A. from the University of Mississippi. In 1980 Dr. Moore began attending Delta State University where she received a M.Ed. in special education and an Ed.D., becoming the first person to receive a doctoral degree from Delta State. Her professional education roles and accomplishments were extensive. Dr. Moore was ordained an Episcopal priest in 2000 and served at numerous Episcopal churches throughout the Delta, including Chapel of the Cross in Rolling Fork, All Saints Episcopal Church in Inverness, Calvary Episcopal Church in Cleveland, and Church of the Advent in Sumner. Additionally, she served as Dean of the Delta Convocation of the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi for over eight years. Among her civic affiliations were memberships in the Bolivar County Historical Society, the Crosstie Arts Council (past president, secretary, and Crosstie Arts Festival secretary), Delta Arts Alliance, and National Association of Junior Auxiliaries (past national president, regional director, chapter president, and life member), and Sons and Daughters of King, Circle Two, Greenville. Dr. Moore is predeceased by her husband Dana (2007), her sister Jere Gibert Stansel (2023) and her brother-in-law Gene Stansel (2024). She is survived by her daughter, Kilby Brabston, her son-in-law, James Brabston, and her nieces Julie Stansel Skinner (David), Martha Stansel Boyd (Bill), and Catharine Stansel Matthews (Brad).

and lovingly assisted Dr. Moore in the last five years of her life.

Alzheimer’s Association, any humane society, or to the charity of your choice.
