Katherine R. Carver, 69, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019, at her home in Ruleville, MS. Visitation will be held at the Ruleville United Methodist Church at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 6, 2019 with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm.
Katherine was born on September 21, 1949 in Greenwood, MS to the late Mr. Curtis Newton Rasberry and Mrs. Annie Bridges Rasberry. She grew up in Greenwood where she graduated from Greenwood High School. She went on to attend and graduate from Mississippi College for Women with a degree in History and a minor in English. She married Newt Carver III of Ruleville in 1971. Katherine began teaching at North Sunflower Academy in 1971 and taught until 1974 when she left to raise her family. She later resumed teaching at Pillow Academy in 1987 and taught until 1992. Although she left teaching full time, she continued to teach part-time as needed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Annie Rasberry.
Katherine is survived by her devoted husband, Newt of Ruleville, MS; her sons, Newt Carver IV of Cherry Hill, NJ; Garrett Carver and his wife Dawn of Ruleville, MS; and Hartley Carver and his fiancée, Kelsey Hale of Ruleville, MS; her sisters, Carolyn Kimbrough of Greenwood, MS and Sharon Palm of Helena, AL. Survivors also include her 3 wonderful grandchildren Davis Carver and Claire Carver of Ruleville, MS and Jacob Carver of Oxford, MS and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the many people that helped in her battle against cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
