Lawrence Edward "Larry" Barr, Jr., 72, of Drew, MS, passed away on June 3, 2017, at his home. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Drew United Methodist Church in Drew, MS. A Memorial Service will follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Drew United Methodist Church with Rev. Glenn Seefeld officiating.
Lawrence was born on December 11, 1944, to Lawrence Edward Barr, Sr. and Evelyn Haines Barr in Ohio. On August 15, 2015, he married Norma Sue Jones in McCarley, MS. He proudly served his country in the Navy and then worked as a Fire Coordinator for the state of Mississippi for 25 years before retiring. He was chief of Drew Fire Department from 1985 to 1995; Emergency Management Agency Coordinator from 1988 to 1995, County Fire Coordinator E911 Coordination, Sunflower County Fire Coordinator, and was also in the Drew Masonic Lodge #459. He enjoyed his time after retirement; it gave him more time to spend with his beloved family and to work outside in his garden. Many times you could have found Lawrence enjoying himself by driving his tractor or riding his bike.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Edward Barr, Sr. and Evelyn Haines Barr; and his first wife, Janet Cherl Horseman Barr.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Sue Barr of Drew, MS; son, Lawrence E. Barr, III (Stephanie) of Collierville, TN; brother, Harold Barr (Carylle) of Port St. Lucie, FL; sisters, Bonnie Scott (Frank) of Springboro, OH and Patty Snead (Ronnie) of West Carrollton, OH; step sons, Johnnie L. Jones, III (Eva) of Austin, TX and Jeremy L. Jones of Clinton, MS; grandson, Wyatt Lawrence Barr of Collierville, TN; and step granddaughter, Carly Marie Jones of Clinton, MS.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Drew Fire Department or the Drew United Methodist Church.
