It is with great sorrow and reflection that we mark the passing of Lellon Edward Couey. As a cherished member of our community, his life was carved into the muddy banks of the Mississippi River. As we remember him, may we find solace in the fact that his spirit will always remain in the flowing waters he loved so much.
“Lon”, as many knew him by, may not have been known far beyond the bend of the Mississippi River, but to those who did, knew he was a man of many roles that reflected the vibrant spirit he carried with him throughout his life.
Depending on the moment in time their path's may have crossed, those who met him may have described Lon as a good friend, a loving son and brother, a father who enjoyed spending time with his daughters, a troubled soul or a God-fearing man.
His existence was a tapestry woven with experiences as a Carpenter, Woodworker, Handy-Man and a damn good Fisherman. Though his life was often as perilous and unpredictable as the river he called home- Lon found both solace and joy in its turbulent waters.
Some would say he was a prisoner of his past, running from shadows cast by reckless choices and demons known only to himself. This much is true. But he was also a good man with a big heart, often carrying other’s burdens as his own and extending a helping hand to those in need.
He found quiet happiness in the simplest of wonders— morning sunlight on river or lake, a fish tugging on the end of a line, planting a garden, enjoying a bag of sunflower seeds, and sipping on a good cup of coffee at any time of the day.
Lon was born on May 13, 1968, in Greenville, Mississippi and departed this world on June 8, 2025. As he journeys onward, let us hold tightly to the memories Lon gifted us with, cherish the time we had together and always remember his legacy and love for us.
Knowing you are now with your loved ones again brings comfort to your family. May you rest where the waters are calm, and the fish always bite.
He is survived by his devoted father, Tommy Couey (Nellie); children, China Snyder (Narada) of Atoka, TN and Taylor Shores (Corey)of Raleigh, NC along with his precious grandson, Heath. He will be missed greatly by his sister Sherry Couey (JoJo Aguzzi) of Merigold, as well as his nephew, Brent Adams (Mandi) of Texas, sister, Tracy Couey of Cleveland and niece, Shannon Wilson of Drew. Other relatives include Janet Williams, Kim Neshdal, and Chris Robinson.
Lon is reunited in peace with his beloved mother, Betty Couey; his brother, Thomas Taylor Couey Jr.; as well as his paternal and maternal grandparents, whose whispers will now guide him in eternal rest.
