Linda Sue Smith 74, of Madison, MS formerly of Greenville, MS was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on April 4, 2024, while surrounded by family. 


A visitation honoring Linda will be Monday, April 8, 2024, from 12-1 at Ray Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 1pm. A graveside service will proceed in the Lehrton Cemetery, Ruleville, MS. 


Linda was born on January 14, 1950, in Greenville, MS to her parents Ola Mae Mitchell Burton and Berry Burton. Linda was a lifelong resident of Greenville where she attended school. Linda married the love of her life, Johnny Smith, on December 18, 1971. In early December of 1979, Linda was baptized in Lake Ferguson by Bro. Gary Chavers, and, received the Holy Ghost on January 9, 1980. She was a devout Christian and spent her life devoted to her family. With a caring heart, she nurtured her Mother and in-laws through their time of illness, until they went to be with the Lord. Linda’s faith never wavered. She prayed continuously for her family and friends. Many will remember her for always having a scripture to help in a time of need.

 

Linda worked at Lazy Boy for many years until she went in partnership with her husband, Johnny Smith, in 1998 opening and operating Smith Funeral Home in Greenville, Ms. Here they ministered to bereaved families, always with care and a tender heart until retiring to Madison, MS. In Linda’s free time, she enjoyed spending time with her Yaya sisters, traveling and just being with family. Many memories were made traveling with her family. She cherished these moments, yet the greatest moments in her life were being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love was always unconditional. 

 

Linda is preceded in passing by her parents Ola Mae Burton & Berry Edward Burton, her beloved son, Joe Perry Harmon IV, brother Ted Erwin, sister, Joann Brandt, brother-in-law, William Smith, sisters-in-law, Ann Erwin, Brenda Burton and Sarah Smith 

 

Linda is survived by her devoted, loving husband of 52 years, Johnny Earl Smith of Madison, MS, her beloved daughter, Stacy Smith Hipp and husband Tracy Hipp of Pelahatchie, MS, brother, Edward “Bubba” Burton of Madison, MS, brother Kenny Burton of Greenville, MS, sisters Rita Ray and husband Ted of Cleveland, MS, and Betty McCullough, sister-in-law, Frances Erwin, her 9 grandchildren, Eric Harmon and wife Timber of Cleveland, MS, TJ Hipp and wife Natalie of Brandon, MS, Malorie Hipp McCloy and husband Andy of Madison, AL, Madison Hipp of Pelahatchie, MS, Coty Harmon of Port Allen, LA, Joshua Harmon of Port  Allen, LA, Fallon Nicole Harmon of Port Allen, LA, Mandy Wolfe and husband Dusty of Mountain Home, AR, and Ammereck Rowland of Mountain Home, AR.  She was also blessed with 16 great-grandchildren.
