Lucy Sim Cheung
Mrs. Lucy Sim Cheung, 96, of Cleveland, passed away Monday, November 26, 2018, at Delta Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 9, 2018, at Ray Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life service led by Rev. James Breland immediately following beginning at 2:00 p.m.. Mrs. Cheung will be laid to rest at New Cleveland Cemetery.
Ms. Lucy, as she liked to be called, was born on July 13, 1922, in San Francisco, CA, to Gean Tom Leong and Hew Leong. On October 2, 1944, she married Tommy Wong Cheung in Reno, NV. In 1954, she, Tommy, and their three children moved from California to Cleveland, MS. After moving to Clarksdale in 1955, they proudly opened Tom's Grocery, where they were in business for 30 years. Following the death of her husband in 1985, she moved to Cleveland to live with her daughter. She was a fantastic cook and an amazing baker. She loved to travel and play mahjong in her spare time. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her family was the center of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gean and Hew Leong; husband, Tommy Wong Cheung; daughter, Bonnie Lew; and brothers, Wilfred Leong and Tim Leong.
Ms. Lucy is survived by her son, Ronald Cheung (Leslie) of Concord, CA, and daughter, Penney Gong (Edward) of Cleveland; grandchildren: Melissa Cheung Olson (Jeff) of Clayton, CA; Whitney Cheung of Davis, CA; Alicia McCreary (Justin) of Ridgeland; Shane Stewart (Heath) of Merigold; and Neil Gong (Elizabeth) of Cleveland; great-grandchildren: Corie Hamer, Jessica Hamer, Gracie Stewart, Emma Gong, Amelia Gong, and Ryan Gong; and sisters, Thelma Yim of Stockton, CA, and Betty Fong of Daly City, CA.
The family would like to give special thanks to the nursing professionals and staff at Delta Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for their loving care of Ms. Lucy this past year.
