Margaret Levoy Chu

Margaret Levoy Chu, age 97, of Jonesboro, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born to the late Harley and Ada McGhee on September 14, 1926, in Casa, Arkansas. Margaret had been a resident of Jonesboro for the last 17 years after spending the majority of her life in Greenville, MS.

Margaret was a beloved member of Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro, where she found great joy in her faith. She cherished her many friends and cherished the time spent with them. Her love for church was evident through her active involvement in her Sunday school class. Margaret was also an avid reader, finding solace and inspiration within the pages of books. She had a passion for cooking and enjoyed creating crafts as well.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Ling Chu, and her brothers Jarrell Lee Lilly, Emmett Lilly, and Darrell Lilly.

Margaret is survived by her loving family, including her son, Patrick (Kyung) Chu of Toms River, NJ; her daughter, Patricia Chu (James Griffey) of Columbus, OH; her two brothers, Robert Lilly and Oscar (Sandra) Lilly, both of Jonesboro; her sister, Juanita Starkey of Greenville, MS; her grandson, Daniel Chu of Raleigh, NC; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A visitation to pay respects to Margaret will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Emerson Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a funeral service will commence at 10:30 am, officiated by Bro. Don Blackmore.

The family will have a private committal service at New Cleveland Cemetery in Cleveland, MS.

Margaret will be remembered fondly by her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
