Marsha Haney Buras, a dedicated educator and beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, in Gulfport, Mississippi. Born on November 23, 1952, in Drew, Mississippi, Marsha exemplified a lifelong commitment to education and serving others throughout her career.
A visitation will be held at Ray Funeral Home, on February 16, 2026 at 10:30am, with a memorial celebration of life at 11:30 and a following graveside service at drew cemetery.
Marsha earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Education from Delta State University. Her career began as a teacher, where her passion for nurturing young minds flourished. She later served as the elementary principal at A W James Elementary School and eventually took on the role of Vice Superintendent for the Sunflower County School District. Her leadership and vision continued as she became the principal of Julia Shannon Elementary School in Stuttgart, Arkansas. In her semi-retirement, Marsha transitioned into real estate, working as an agent with Coldwell Banker, Alfonso Realty in Diamondhead, Mississippi, where she continued to touch lives.
Marsha's impact extended far beyond her professional achievements; she was a pillar in her family and the community. She is lovingly remembered by her only son, Joshua Sledge, and her mother, Lucille Haney. Marsha is preceded in death by her father, James Haney, and her late husband, Myles Buras.
Her legacy of education and community service will be cherished by all who had the privilege to know her. Marsha's warmth, guidance, and unwavering dedication to her students and family have left an indelible mark that will be remembered for years to come.
