Martha Jane Flanagan

Martha Jane Flanagan, 92, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, MS departed this life on Saturday, August 26, 2023, to be with Jesus and to fly with the Angels.  Visitation will be 12: 00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS.  Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Delta Heights Cemetery.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and worshiped there until her health prevented her form attending.  Sissy, as she was known to her family members was born on April 9, 1931, to Guy and Lorene Flanagan.  Sissy graduated from Cleveland High School as an “A” student in 1949.  After graduation she went to work for Cleveland State Bank and was their employee for 51 years.  Sissy loved dress making as a hobby and made many of her clothes she wore while in school.  Later, she began making quilts and bed covers. 

Sissy being the oldest; was a good example for her four brothers and one sister to follow.  Three of the brothers are still living.  They are C.A. Flanagan in Sherwood, AR, Earl Flanagan of Coila, MS, and Wynn Garrett of Cleveland, MS. 

She is preceded in death by Lorene Dickerman of South Dakota and Virgle Garrett Jr. of Cleveland.

Sissy was a wonderful sister, and nothing will ever be the same with her smiling face.
