Mrs. Mary Claire Sugg Norwood of Cleveland, passed away Monday, August 16, 2010 at Cleveland Personal Care. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Cleveland, with Rev. Milton Burd and Macklyn Hubbell officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Ray Funeral Home from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. Burial will follow the funeral in New Cleveland Cemetery.
Mrs. Norwood was born May 13, 1929 to John Minor Sugg and Claudia Roberts Sugg in Scott, MS. She married Malcom M. Norwood August 8, 1954 in Benoit, MS.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John Minor Sugg and Claudia Roberts Sugg; husband, Malcolm M. Norwood; brother, John Minor Sugg, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Suzanne Norwood.
Mrs. Norwood is survived by her sons, Mark Norwood of Hattiesburg, MS, and Bill Norwood (Cecelia) of Yazoo City, MS; daughter, Stephanie Champion (Jeff) of Madison, MS; sister, Carolyn Nau of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Will Norwood, Helen Claire Norwood, Matt Norwood, Drew Norwood, Tyler Champion, and Kyle Champion.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Thompson, James Donald Cooper, Ed LaMastus, Tommy Naron, Harry Howarth, Pete Jones, Mike Ellis, and Ian Richardson.
Mrs. Mary Claire Norwood was a loving wife of 55 years, and a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a faithful organist for the First Baptist Church in Cleveland. Mrs. Norwood was a very respected teacher of music at Drew Elementary and Delta State University. She taught many students piano from her home.
