Mary Elizabeth Smith

Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Smith peacefully departed this life on February 4, 2026. Throughout her remarkable journey, Mary embodied the essence of love, faith, and family. She will be forever cherished by her beloved family and friends who had the privilege of knowing her.

A service honoring Beth will be held on February 15th at Cleveland Church of Christ at 2:00PM

Beth was born on July 19, 1939 near Acton Tennessee where she played basketball and graduated from Michie High School. She married Ralph Bernell "Smitty" Smith on July 7th, 1956. Beth and Ralph spent time living in Roswell New Mexico on the Air Force Base before moving to Cleveland in 1958.

Beth dedicated a significant part of her life to serving others. She began her career working for the Cleveland city water department before transitioning to the role of bookkeeper at Cleveland State Bank, where she worked diligently for over ten years. Her meticulous nature and strong work ethic were admired by colleagues and friends alike. Her professional ability was only matched by her devotion to her church and family. She was a proud member of the Cleveland Church of Christ, where her faith guided her every action and inspired those around her.

In her heart, family reigned supreme. Beth believed that raising her children was one of the most important responsibilities in life. She took immense pride in watching her children grow into the remarkable individuals they have become. Her passion for nurturing extended beyond her immediate family, as she showered love and care onto her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Beth’s talent in the kitchen was legendary. Known for her amazing cooking, she created delicious meals that were often accompanied by laughter and cherished memories around the dining table. Family meals were always places of joy for Beth and all those who sampled her cooking.

She leaves behind her adoring children, Ricky (Diane) Smith, Tammy (Bruce) Stewart, and Todd Smith. Grandchildren Hal (Caroline) Smith, Brooke (David) Schexnayder, and Sydnie (Jacob) Dickson will forever hold dear the precious moments shared with their loving grandmother. Her legacy continues with her great-grandchildren, Sarah Hollis Smith, Elizabeth "Liza" McGee Smith, and Luke Schexnayder, who were graced with her unconditional love and guidance.

Beth is now reunited with her beloved parents, her loving husband Ralph Bernell "Smitty" Smith, her sisters Jeanette Coln and Ann Coln, and her brother Donald Copeland, who await her in peace. Together, they will continue to watch over the family she cherished so deeply.

As we celebrate the life of Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Smith, we remember her deep faith, her unwavering commitment to family, and her boundless love that touched all who knew her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, who will carry forward her legacy of kindness, love, and devotion.
