O.W. Miller

Mr. Oddie William "O.W." Miller, 91, of Cleveland, MS, went to be with Jesus on January 24, 2019, in Greenville, MS. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Ray Funeral Home.  Celebration of Life services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 27, 2019, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Will Wilkerson officiating. Interment will be 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 27, 2019, at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City.
Mr. Miller was born on June 8, 1927, to Oddie Walter and Mabel Alberta Triplett Miller in Drew, MS. In 1945, he graduated from Drew High School then went to serve his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In his youth, Mr. Miller ran the projector for the old Globe Theater in Drew, as well as the projector for the performances at Drew High School. He was the manager for six years. In his earlier years, he spent time with his dad hunting and fishing. Mr. Miller had a longstanding career for thirty seven years with Fred's Incorporation. He was the manager of Fred's of Louise for four years; he then managed the Cleveland store for 27 years, and owned the Drew store for six years before he retired from the Fred's Corporation.
Mr. Miller sold cars for Mr. Hannaford at the Ford dealership, and sold furniture for Mallette Furniture before finally officially retiring.  He has been an active member of the Drew Masonic Lodge # 459 since 1988 where he is a Thirty Second Degree Mason. Mr. Miller was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Cleveland, MS, where he has faithfully served since 1958. He was a member of the Methodist Men's, Sunday School Superintendent for 10 years, and usher among other positions.
When his children were younger, he made it a point to go on special, annual family vacations. He had often said that those were some of his most cherished memories. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan and supporter of Delta State University, Mississippi State and Ole Miss sports.
Mr. Miller loved working in his yard and tending to his flowers, he enjoyed spending time with his son and daughter-in-law. He was especially proud of his art director daughter who was a two time Emmy winner.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oddie Walter and Mabel Alberta Miller; brothers, Joe Miller formerly of Ridgeland and Walter T. Miller formerly of Vicksburg; late wife, Barbara Smith Miller formerly of Cleveland; and late wife, Betty Sue Carroll Cooper Miller formerly of Cleveland.
O.W. is survived by his son, Glenn and daughter in law, Jeanne Lee Miller of Hernando, MS; daughter, Tina Miller of Pasadena, CA; favorite niece, Brenda Miller McKenzie (Carl) of Ridgeland; nephews, Jerry Miller of Jackson and Hugh Smith of Madison; sister-in-law, Pauline Miller of Vicksburg; nieces, LeAnne Miller Gilcrease (Rickey) of Bossier City, LA and Loretta Miller McKinney (Dave) of Vicksburg; several great, great nieces and nephews; and care-givers, Brenda Douglas of Cleveland and Miriam James of Merigold. He is also survived by four stepchildren from his second marriage to Betty Sue: Mark (Pat) of Arlington, TX, Henry Cooper of Jacksonville, FL, Becky Cooper of Kingsport, TN, and Suzi Pettibone of New Milford, CT.
