Peggy Louise Cothran departed this world peacefully on February 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, artistry, and culinary delight that touched all who knew her.
In celebration of Peggy's remarkable life, a visitation will be held on February 17, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS. A Celebration of Life will follow from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, honoring the legacy she leaves behind. Peggy will be laid to rest during a graveside service at North Cleveland Cemetery immediately after
Peggy was born on January 24, 1939, in Morgan City, MS to Leland and Louise Truitt. Peggy attended Morgan City High School, where she met the love of her life, Joseph Rayford “Ray” Cothran. They graduated together and soon after were married, beginning a remarkable 68-year marriage built on devotion, faithfulness and deep love. Together they built a home centered on family, commitment and service to others. The roots of Peggy’s warmth and creativity spread to her beloved family. Throughout her life, she created a warm and loving environment for all who knew her. Known for her exceptional talents in needlepoint, cooking, and artistry. She often displayed the beauty of the world through her created works or drawings and often shared her culinary creations with others.
Peggy had a tender heart for people, especially those who were sick or going through difficult times. She was known for checking on others, often bringing a freshly baked angel food cake or sending a thoughtful get-well card filled with encouraging words
The most important thing in Peggy’s life was her family. Her unwavering love for them shown brightly everyday. She is survived by her dear husband, Ray Cothran, and her cherished daughters, Melinda Cannon and Charlene McMinn. She also leaves behind her son-in-law, David Cannon; grandchildren, Kimberly Perez, Pate McMinn, and Jennifer Keith; as well as great-grandchildren, Gavin Perez, Rose Keith, and Haley Perez. Peggy is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Sandra Peeples and Mary Joyce Lindsey.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Louise Truitt.
Peggy Louise Cothran will forever be remembered for creating a sanctuary of love in her home and for the indelible marks she left on the hearts of all those who knew her.
