Peggy Jean Gillis Tyler passed away peacefully at her home in Montevallo, Alabama on March 24, 2018 surrounded by loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thelma Lorene Hollis and Ira Benton Hollis, and her daughter, Melanie Tyler Owen.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Billy Ray Tyler, her devoted son Benton Wayne Tyler, her granddaughter Rachel Danielle Owen Baker, and her great grandson Ross Tyler Baker.
A long-time resident of Memphis, Tennessee, Peggy was born in Ruleville, Mississippi and raised in Cleveland, Mississippi. She graduated from Cleveland High School in 1958 and attended Memphis State University as well as cosmetology school in Greenville, Mississippi before marrying Billy on August 6, 1961. She was a twenty year employee at Jenny Craig of Memphis.
After her retirement from Jenny Craig in 2010, she moved with her husband to live near their son in Montevallo, Alabama. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Montevallo and the Civitan Club until her death.
She will be remembered as a loving and kind wife and mother, and good-hearted friend to all who knew her. She will be missed.
Funeral services will be held at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, Mississippi on Tuesday, March 27th, at 3pm with visitation from 2-3pm prior. A memorial service will also be held Tuesday, April 3rd at the First Baptist Church of Montevallo at 5pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Peggy's memory to the Melanie Tyler Owen Memorial Scholarship fund at Delta State University.
