Mrs. Rose Nan Belenchia, 86, formerly of Shelby, passed away at Alden Pointe Assisted Living facility in Hattiesburg, MS Friday, July 22, 2011. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday July 25, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelby, MS. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and will end at time of service. Father Kent Bowlds of Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Cleveland will conduct the funeral mass.
Mrs. Belenchia was born in Memphis on February 2nd 1925, to Joseph Foti and Christine Foti . Soon after her birth, the family relocated to Pine Bluff, Arkansas. After graduating high school and working in the Pine Bluff area during WWII, she relocated to Memphis. She attended school there and achieved her certification as a radiology technician. She relocated to Shelby, MS to be with her father in 1948, who had just opened Liberty Cash Grocery. Rose Nan worked with her father, Joe Foti, at Liberty Cash until his untimely death in 1952. At that time, she and her sister Joe Ann Mangilardi became the owners and operators of the store. Rose Nan met, and on January 18, 1956 married Albert Belenchia of Shelby. Rose Nan made her home in Shelby with Albert and their three children. She was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church for 60 years. Serving as choir director and song leader at Saint Mary's was an important part of Rose Nan's life. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and Saint Mary's Parish Council.
Rose Nan was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Foti and Christine Foti McInerney; sister Joe Ann Mangilardi; and her husband Albert Belenchia. Survivors include her son, Michael Belenchia, (Elizabeth "Bib") of Cleveland, MS; daughters, Theresa "Tessie" Smith (Patrick) of Jackson, MS, and Marcia Line (Lance) of Hattiesburg; Grandchildren, Megan Belenchia, Hayes Line and Haley Line. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Medical Research Foundation or to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelby, MS in loving memory of Mrs. Belenchia.
