Ruth Weilenman Ellis

Mrs. Ada Ruth Weilenman Ellis, 92, of Cleveland, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Walter B. Crook Nursing Facility in Ruleville, MS. Visitation will be 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016, at St. Luke United Methodist Church. Celebration of Life services will immediately follow beginning at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Darian Duckworth officiating.
Ruth was born on March 4, 1924, to Richard Wesley Weilenman and Lillian Ruth Krutz Weilenman. On June 12, 1948, she married John Clyde Ellis in Shaw, MS.
She is remembered for her work at Delta State University where she retired after thirty years. As Assistant Registrar she assisted over 20,000 students to graduate and was honored by having a yearbook dedicated to her.
She was a very independent woman who loved staying active despite her age. Ruth was a faithful member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Alpha Sunday School class and the Mission and Compassionate Care committees. She always looked forward to attending performances at the Bologna Performing Arts Center and loved Dancing with the Stars, working jigsaw/crossword puzzles and reading.
She treasured any moment she could spend with friends and family and kept every greeting card she was ever given. She was an excellent cook and loved to share her gift with all. Every new church member was greeted with a freshly baked chocolate pie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Wesley Weilenman and Lillian Ruth Krutz Weilenman; husband, John Clyde Ellis; and brother, Richard W. "Buddy" Weilenman, Jr.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Jane Ellis Foster of Cleveland, MS; son, John Scott Ellis of Arlington, VA; grandsons, Frank Porter Foster, III (Catherine) of Brandon, MS and Michael Scott Foster (Erika) of Springfield, VA; great-grandchildren, Derek Christopher Foster of Brandon, and Zachary Joseph Foster, Carter James Foster and Karsyn Santana Foster, all of Springfield, VA; and numerous beloved cousins.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and the men of the St. Luke Coleman Sunday School Class. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Alpha Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church.
