Tommy Naron, a cherished member of the Cleveland community, entered the presence of the Lord on September 23, 2025, at the age of 75. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church on September 26, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM., followed by a Celebration of Life service beginning at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will immediately follow at North Cleveland Cemetery.
Tommy was born on March 22, 1950, to Ephram and Irene Naron in Cleveland, Mississippi. He dedicated his life to education, leadership, and service, leaving behind a meaningful and lasting legacy.
Tommy graduated from Cleveland High School in the Class of 1968 and went on to further his studies at Delta State University, earning a master’s degree in education in 1973. His education career began at Sharkey Issaquena Academy, where he served as elementary school principal. Tommy felt the pull of his native soil and returned home to farm at Naron Farms. Tommy’s career in education was marked by significant roles, notably serving as principal of Presbyterian Day School from 1998 to 2008 and headmaster for a decade. He then served as headmaster for five years at Oxford University School. For twelve years, Tommy served as county supervisor, making meaningful and lasting contributions to the community and its educational institutions.
A devoted and lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Cleveland, Tommy was actively involved in all church activities and served as a deacon. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his personal and professional endeavors. Tommy’s passion for education extended beyond his administrative duties; he also took on the role of interview coach for Miss Mississippi Pageant as well as for students applying for dental and law school. He believed in the power of bettering and shaping adolescents and young adults through mentorship.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Tommy was an avid supporter of Delta State Athletics and a faithful attendee of Delta State family events. You could always count on Tommy to sport his favorite color in his clothing choices- Delta State green. His enthusiasm for local sports was matched only by his commitment to giving back to the community. He held various leadership positions, including president of the Cleveland and Delta State Booster Club, president of the Mississippi Board of Supervisors, and president of the Delta Council. His impact on leadership training in the state was further affirmed by being part of the first-ever Mississippi Leadership Class, which he was very proud of.
Tommy's interests extended into community service as he was an active member of the Lions Club, showcasing his dedication to helping others and improving the lives of those around him. His engaging personality, ability to connect with others and dedication to service made him a beloved figure in the community. No tribute to Tommy would be complete without mentioning his legendary full head of hair.
Tommy is survived by his beloved wife, Memorie McCool Naron; son, David (Katie) Naron; and grandchildren, Eli, Elaina, and Wyatt Naron, who affectionately called him Tom-Tom. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends who remember him for his unwavering commitment to education, community service, and the joy he brought to those around him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ephram and Irene Naron; brothers, Billy and William Naron; and sister, Betty Barrett.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to Delta State University.
