Vernon “Butch” Douglas Pugh

Vernon “Butch” Douglas Pugh, 73, of Cleveland Mississippi, passed away on March 6, 2026. Butch was a longtime resident of Cleveland. Butch graduated from Deer Creek High School where he played football, basketball, and ran track. He married his beloved wife, Peggy, in 1977. For most of Butch’s life, he did what he loved most which was landscaping. He worked for Delta State, Olympic Baseball field in Tennessee ,and the state of Arkansas. Later in life, Butch transitioned to selling chemicals for Agra Turf to help keep those fields beautiful. He LOVED football (ROLL TIDE!) and adored Nick Sabon. Butch’s greatest life lesson he would want you all to remember is NEVER QUIT! He would always light up a room with his laugh and smile. He was a big family and friends kind of guy. Butch exuded love and will be missed by so many.

Butch was greeted in heaven by his son, Tripp Pugh, Father, Vernon Pugh, Mother, Hattie Pugh, Sister, Brenda Bariola, and brother Gerald Pugh.

He is survived by is wife, Peggy Pugh, Son Taylor Pugh (Jessica Pugh), Grand daughters Sara Hankins (Harlon Hankins), Amelia Pugh, and Madison Pugh, and Great grand daughter, Tatum Grace Hankins, and Brother, Lee Pugh. Along with several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: Harlon Hankins, John Spears, Randy Hartzog, Todd Ables, Mitchell Stevens, and Joey Hill

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland. A celebration of life service will begin at 2:00.
