William Carlton Mayfield was called home to be with the Lord on June 04, 2021. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00P.M. Friday, June 11, 2021, at Covenant Presbyterian Church with a visitation prior to service from 1-2pm at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Carlton was born on May 21, 1940, in Vaiden, MS to the late Joseph Leon Mayfield and Mary Elizabeth Pollard Mayfield. He grew up in Vaiden, MS, where he attended and graduated from Vaiden High School. He attended Holmes Junior College where he played football. He went on to join the United States Marine Corp. Carlton served in Vietnam and the Cuban Crisis. While serving in the Marines, he was a combat engineer with the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Additionally, he was awarded the Rifle Marksmanship Badge and Good Conduct Medal. Upon return, he graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi. He was a retired sports official from the MS Private School Association. Carlton worked as an accountant and purchasing agent for Parchman Department of Correction. Most of all he was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather & great grandfather who cherished his wife and adored his family. Carlton was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, American Legion, and MPSA. He was an avid golfer, Ole Miss sports fan, and enjoyed the lunches with his former MPSA officiating friends. According to Carlton, his three greatest accomplishments were: knowing the Lord Jesus Christ, raising five children, and being a U.S. Marine. Carlton is preceded in his passing by his parents, Joseph Leon Mayfield & Mary Elizabeth Pollard Mayfield. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Patricia Jean Kerr Mayfield., five children, Rhonda Daves (Michael) of Rolling Fork, MS., Robin Grubb (Karl) of Scobey, MS., Donald "Donnie" West of Enid, MS., Russell "Rusty" West (Samantha) of Clarksdale, MS., and Dr. Tricia "Tem" Killebrew (Milan) of Cleveland, MS. His grandchildren include Wade Eubanks, Alex Witherspoon (Colton), Kyle Grubb (Laura), Karlyn Goff (Trey), Ty Daves, Tristan West, and Ashton West, along with two great grandchildren, Raydan Witherspoon and Jordan Witherspoon. One sister, Judy M. Tompkins (Clint) of Kilmichael, MS., special cousins, Joe Lynn Gant of Weir, MS, James Allan Gant of Winona, MS, and special friend, Chance Robinson of Drew, MS. The family wishes all memorials be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church.
