William Franklin Free Jr.

William “Willie” Franklin Free Jr., 73, of Ruleville, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at his home.

 

Willie was born July 26, 1949 in Cleveland, MS to William Sr. and Vivian Phillips Free. He married Melanie Williamson Free on November 11, 2011. 

 

Willie served as chief engineer as a merchant marine for over thirty years. He enjoyed traveling around the world and playing guitar. He loved his friends and would give anyone the shirt off his back. He was a kind, gentle soul, who loved hanging out on his back porch, looking out over the water. 

 

He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Benoit, MS.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Melanie of Cleveland, MS; son, Jarrett (Angela) of Jonesboro, AR; daughter, Casey of Cleveland, MS; sister, Janis (Tommy) Stacy of Bono, AR; and grandchildren Anne and Henry of Jonesboro, AR.

 

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 15 at 1pm at Southside Baptist Church in Benoit, MS. A memorial service will follow at 2pm with Brothers Ike Raley and Tommy Stacy officiating.
