Willie McNeer

Mr. Willie McNeer of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2011, 10:10 p.m. at his home. A celebration of his life will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Ray Funeral Home with Reverend Thomas Bruce officiating. Soloists will be Ted Ray and Bill Quinton. Burial will follow at New Cleveland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011.
Willie was born in Cleveland on November 30, 1945, to Doty and Bessie Robinson McNeer. Growing up, he attended Cleveland High School. He married Roslyn Miles and they were married for 45 years. He was a devoted and loving father to his only child and son, Bryan, who preceded him in death in 1992. Willie worked in the grocery store industry in Ruleville for approximately 20 years. His giving spirit was felt on a constant basis by all his neighbors, friends, family and community in that he was known as a man who tried to mend everything including a broken heart.
Willie was a lifetime, avid bass tournament fisherman, partnering with Wallace Boyd. He was a member of Fishers of Men, Mississippi Team Trails, Delta Anglers, Cleveland Bass Club and Bass Champions. He was also a devoted member of Yale Street Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Cleveland, MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Doty and Bessie McNeer and son, Bryan McNeer.
Mr. McNeer is survived by his wife, Roslyn Miles McNeer of Cleveland; four brothers, Donnell McNeer (Gloria) of Cleveland, Chester McNeer (Carolyn) of Drew, R.B. McNeer of Yazoo City, and Lester McNeer of Nesbit; and three sisters, Peggy Saunders of Warren, AR, Susie Sumrall (W.J "Dub") of Cleveland, and Joy Hays of Crowville, LA.
Pallbearers will be Authur Causey, Ronnie Wall, Wallace Boyd, Wayne Tenhet, Henry Mosco, Gary Jennings, William Wade, Harvey Dreaher, and Ron McNeer.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Boyer, Bobby Ware, Jeff Fleming, Marvin Lott, Shawn Harris, Bill Quinton, Lane Quinton, Larry McIntosh, Keith Kendall, Bill Redditt.
Memorials may be made to Baptist Children's Village in Jackson, MS.
