Effie Hayes Obituary

Effie Inez Hayes, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026.

Born on June 5, 1937, in Doddsville, Mississippi, to Richard and Opal Hayes, Effie lived a life marked by remarkable achievements and deep devotion. Her journey was defined not only by her professional excellence but also by the unwavering love she held for her family and her steadfast faith. She was renowned as a skilled interior designer whose creativity and dedication to her craft impressed all who worked with her.

Effie’s life was enriched by a profound commitment to her spiritual walk. As a devout member of Delta City Baptist Church, she found strength and solace in her faith, which inspired many who knew her. Those who crossed paths with Effie often admired her for the genuine love she exhibited toward her family and for the joy she discovered in the simple yet extraordinary elements of life—whether flying planes or driving semi trucks, she embraced these passions with enthusiasm and skill.

Effie was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Francis Hayes and Opal McCrary Hayes, as well as her siblings Melvyn Hayes and Shirley Pettway. Their memories remain forever etched in the story of her life.

Her family was, without question, the center of her world. Effie's warmth and devotion extended through generations, displayed by those who survive her, including her cherished children: sons Bruce Priddy, Gary Priddy, and daughter Sonia Ellis. She took immense pride and joy in her grandchildren—Allen Harrison, Elizabeth Lloyd, Kyle Priddy, and Katherine Anavo—and treasured her great-grandchildren, John Lawson Domino, Amilia Domino, Penelopi Harrison, and Ivy Kate Lloyd. Through them, her legacy of love and resilience will continue to flourish.

In addition to her beloved family, Effie held close a circle of special friends who valued her compassionate spirit and unwavering support. Among them were Jo Beverly, Kim Marler, Frances Luker, Carrol Nicks, Atherstein Atkins, Sherry Chaney, and Ronnie Boyd each touched by her kindness and enduring friendship.

Effie Inez Hayes leaves behind a legacy defined by creativity, faith, and an extraordinary love for those she held dear. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a woman of strength and grace, whose spirit soared as freely as the planes she piloted and whose journey through life made a lasting impact upon her family, friends, and community.
