John Turner Vickers Jr., passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, at the age of 87, in Cleveland, MS.

Born on March 29, 1939, to John and Darthula Vickers in Greenwood, MS. John dedicated his life to education, attending Mississippi Delta Junior College, Delta State University, Nichols State College, William Carey University, and the University of Southern Miss. After shaping his own, John turned to the cultivator of young minds as a respected coach and teacher at Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC). John helped to instill a desire to always learn and grow in the many he taught, and all who truly knew him.

An avid outdoorsman, John found joy in fishing, basketball, camping, and woodworking. Ever sharpening his mind and body while enjoying the simple beauty of the world around him. His passion for life extended beyond hobbies; he was deeply rooted in his faith as a devoted member of Moorhead Methodist Church, where he generously shared his time by teaching Sunday school for many years. John's unwavering love for his family was evident in all he did; he embraced each moment spent with them, creating memories that will forever resonate in their hearts.

John is predeceased by his parents, John Turner Vickers Sr. and Darthula Scott Vickers, his brother Scott Vickers, and his grandchild Brent Vickers.

John is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years Shirley McCarty Vickers; his sons, Keith (Rhonda) Vickers and Kevin (Candy) Vickers; his cherished grandchildren, Carson (Colby) Denton, Dillon Vickers, Ashley Vickers, and Luke Vickers; his precious great-grandchildren, John Thomas Vickers and Hollis Turner Denton; and his sister Jane (Butch) Polito.

John Turner Vickers Jr. will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
